our winter as you know was tough and we were all thinking the deer would have taken a beating but it seems that not much was lost. surprisingly the fawn crop was even pretty good. thankfully it seems the ehd has run its course for now and the muskegon river was apparently the north boundry for the most part. the oaks are loaded and it seems its a good year for the white oaks according to reports. apples are spotty, some areas are heavy, where some are a lot thinner, but most have some. the turkeys on the other hand did take a beating last winter so the numbers are far less in this area than we are used to. luckily the remaining ones seemed to have a pretty good hatch as we are seeing quite a few young ones when you do see a hen. our grouse numbers are hard to report until we start talking to some hunters this next week but the state says we are increasing the numbers.hopefully the money we are spending on the newly required base license is gonna be put to good use for our future small game opportunities.
